Christi van der Colff (formerly known as Johan van der Colff) is a South African-born, internationally celebrated Recording & Mix Engineer, Sound Designer, and Technical Director with over 20 years of professional experience across the studio, live, broadcast, and film sectors. She is the Managing Director and Chief Engineer at Mastermax Productions (MMX|Studios), Founder of Post|City, and CEO of Abbey Road Institute Johannesburg, the South African branch of the world-renowned music production education institution.
As a transgender woman, Christi’s journey has been one of fearless innovation, exceptional artistry, and powerful transformation—both personal and professional. Her work has left an indelible mark on South Africa’s media and music landscape, with her credits spanning everything from global concert broadcasts to chart-topping albums and acclaimed feature films.

Live Broadcast Mix for The Black Eyed Peas at the Pyramids of Giza.
Recording & Final Mix engineer for Mumford and Sons’ Live in South Africa Dust and Thunder Concert Film and subsequent Live EP releases.
Recording engineer on albums by Jennifer Hudson, Westlife, OneRepublic, and many others.
Winner of the SAMA (South African Music Award) for Best Engineer on the iconic album Loliwe by Zahara — an album that broke records by winning 12 SAMAs.
Lead Sound Designer and Re-Recording Mixer on major South African films such as Liefling, Bhai’s Café, and The Roar.
Broadcast technical lead on global events such as MTV Africa Awards, FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony, and the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100.
Her deep understanding of acoustic engineering has also led to the design and construction of multiple world-class studios, including MMX|Studios, Post|City, JC Sound Design, and Steenberg Studios. Her company, Soundproofing & Acoustics SA, has advised clients ranging from MultiChoice and SABC, to Madame Zingara and Ellerman House Boutique Hotel.
